How Do I Choose Paint for my Bathroom Remodel?

People stop by our showroom all the time asking “How do I know what color to choose for my bathroom remodel?” Most recently, a gentleman came in and told me his wife did not like the paint color he had chosen – a blinding, glossy, bright white. Now he is stuck with a bad color and a gallon of paint he’ll never use. Because he is a customer of ours, we were able to look up the details of his bathroom remodel project and move forward with a complimentary color palette that better suited his shower wall and shower pan choices.

To keep this from happening to you, consider the following tips. A great way to select a color for a bathroom remodel is to pull from something that will be in the room. It could be artwork, a rug, furniture, vanity color, etc. Paint stores now sell small samples of paint. This way, you’re not committed to a whole gallon to later decide it’s not the right color. Try to narrow it down to 2 or 3 colors. Sometimes a perfect match is not always the best wall color. A shade or two lighter or darker may give the room that expensive designer look.

And try asking yourself these simple questions about your bathroom remodel:

  • Where in the home is the bathroom located? Who will use it the most often?

  • How much light does the room get? Are there any windows?

  • Do the walls need to stand up against possible stains from children or pets?

  • Will the room be active or peaceful? How do I want it to feel?

Once you have answered these questions about your bathroom remodel, you should have a better understanding of how to add color and fun, or create a tranquil and spa like atmosphere to the most used room in the house.

And since we’re talking about color, I thought it would be fun to explore the hidden meanings of a few of the most popular colors. Have you ever wondered, “What does this color mean?” Much has been studied and written about color and its impact on our daily lives. It influences emotions, actions and how we respond to people, things and ideas. Here are some fun tidbits concerning colors:

Yellow – I think we all know that all yellows are not created equal. The perfect shade will make you feel happy, comfortable and energetic. Yellow symbolizes wisdom, joy and happiness.

Blue – A popular color choice. It’s known as a cool and calming color, great for bedrooms and babies’ rooms. Also a good pick for bathroom remodels that are going for a more peaceful atmosphere.

Red – The warmest of all colors. It symbolizes confidence, courage and vitality.

Green – If you’re ever in doubt of what color to choose, green is not only considered a safe go-to color, but it is one of the most restful colors.

Gray – A popular neutral choice. It is good for reducing energy of another color. Use carefully, too much gray will make a room look dull.

Orange – Considered a power color, and thought to stimulate enthusiasm and creativity.

So have fun with your bathroom remodel! Choosing a paint color is not rocket science; it can actually be a very enjoyable process.
