Acrylic -

A solid surface non-porous polymer. One common acrylic is Corian. Acrylics are great for wet areas because they are non-porous and will not chip, stain, crack, or fade over time.


Cultered Marble -

A solid surface material made of ground up stone dust mixed with resins. Cultured Marble has a major draw back in the fact that it typically yellows over time and is susceptible to discoloration or staining.


DuraBath SSP -

Named Dura for durable and SSP for solid surface polymer. DuraBath SSP is a specially engineered building product made by Spartech, manufactured and sold exclusively through Re-Bath Dealers nationwide. It combines the highest impact strength with sparkling clarity. It is suited for rigidized components in demanding structural applications that require long lasting endurance. Durabath SSP is far superior to any other competitive product and excels in fabrication performance. This material will not chip, crack, peel or fade. This is guaranteed for life! The smooth, non-porous, stain-resistant, high-gloss finish is also extremely easy to clean.


Gel Coat -

A material used to provide a high-quality finish on the surface of a fiberglass material. Usually about 5mm in thickness. A gel coat is put on fiberglass tubs, shower bases, and walls. Once the gel coat wears away these items can stain.


Grout -

Is a material used to fill seems in between tile. It is made up of cement and sand. Grout is porous meaning it can be stained and give mold and mildew a place to live.


Non-porous -

A term used decribe a material that is a solid surface, meaning that the material will not stain. Mold and mildew will not grow on non-porous materials


Porcelain -

A material made by fusing powdered glass to a bathtub by firing, usually at about 1500 °F. The powder melts, flows, and then hardens to a smooth, durable coating on metal, and also glass or ceramics, although the use of the term "enamel" is often restricted to work on metal. There is no way to coat a bathtub in this manner outside of the factory.


Re-Glazing/Re-Finishing -

A method of painting a bathtub, shower base, or tile. Re-glazing is typically a short term solution as the paint chips away after a few months.


Wall Surround -

A term used decribe the walls in the wet area surrounding the tub or shower base.
